Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra (born May 12, 1925) is a former American Major League Baseball catcher, outfielder, andmanager. He played nearly his complete 19-year baseball career (1946–1965) for the New York Yankees. Berra was one of merely four players to be dubbed the Most Valuable Player of the American League three times and one of merely six administrators to lead bothAmerican and National League teams to the World Series. He was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. Hall of Famer Yogi Berra was taken to an area hospital and later discharged on Thursday after he fell in the Yankees' clubhouse at the Phillies spring-training site. Berra, 85, was getting lunch at around 11:20 a.m. when he stumbled and fell backward. He was taken by ambulance to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater as a precaution.
